Group Genius: The Power of Creative Collaboration by Keith Sawyer.

An engrossing book examining how innovation is the result of collaboration.

“We’re drawn to the image of the lone genius whose mystical moment of insight changes the world. But the lone genius is a myth; instead, it’s group genius that generates breakthrough innovation. When we collaborate, creativity unfolds across people; the sparks fly faster, and the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”

As way of example, Sawyer contrasts the collaborative cluster of Silicon Valley with Route 128 in Boston during the 1970s. Rather than stifle innovation through restrictive practices the Bay Area promoted the free flow of ideas, information and people.
