Municipal Services List (Alpha)

We talk a lot about services in our work. Using the definition from one of our favourite little orange book - “A service is something that helps someone do something”.

We think of a service as something that a customer wants to do.

So, in the municipal world Zoning isn’t a service.

But the following are:

  • lookup zoning at a specific location

  • find out what the zoning at a location means for me and my project (what restrictions, requirements are applied)

  • find out if my project requires a zoning change

  • talk to a planner to understand the impact and how to make a zoning change

  • get a zoning change

  • get a zoning clearance certificate

  • get a zoning compliance statement

To help our work, and our clients, we are beginning work on developing a standard list of municipal services - we call it the MSL or the Municipal Services List.

We post it here as a commitment to keep working on it - and share it openly.

Please note that the list is an Alpha, maybe even pre-Alpha. Meaning it is incomplete and a work in progress. In most areas the full list of ‘things a customer wants to do’ are incomplete and this is the area we are currently working on. We plan to iterate and improve this list constantly and aggressively, so that by the end of 2023 this becomes a comprehensive resource.

You can use the slicers on the first tab to navigate the complete MSL list in the second tab.
