Brian Whitelaw

Consultant and specialist in IT governance, strategy and security policy

Brian is a senior municipal IT leader and consultant with extensive experience in technology governance, strategy, and risk management. Over a long career with the City of London, he held several senior roles including Manager of Corporate Systems, Manager of Infrastructure, Manager of Information Security, and Division Manager responsible for Enterprise IT Governance, IT Risk and Compliance, the PMO, and IT strategy development. During this time, he led major corporate initiatives including the implementation of an enterprise-wide IT governance model, chairing the Corporate IT Steering Committee, and establishing the City’s Information Security Office from the ground up.

Since transitioning to consulting in 2014, Brian has supported numerous public and private sector organizations by conducting IT organizational reviews, governance and compliance assessments, and advising on cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning. Known for his practical, risk-informed approach, Brian brings deep expertise in IT strategy and planning, security and risk management, governance design, and IT skills and organizational assessments.
